Nameservers decide which server the whole world is sent to for your domain – not just your website, but your email and everything else.
Ours
If your hosting is with us, your domain should normally use:
- ns1.havenswift-hosting.co.uk
- ns2.havenswift-hosting.co.uk
With these set, we manage the DNS records for you and your site and mail work without further configuration.
The thing people get wrong
Changing nameservers replaces all your DNS records at once, not just the website. If your email is with a separate provider and you switch nameservers to ours without recreating the MX records here, your email stops immediately – and mail sent during that period bounces rather than queueing.
Before changing nameservers, write down every record you currently have: the website, MX records for mail, SPF and DKIM, and any verification records for third-party services. Recreate them here first, then change the nameservers.
How long it takes
Nameserver changes are not instant. Allow up to 48 hours for the whole world to catch up, although it is usually much quicker. During that period some visitors see the old server and some the new, which is normal and not a fault.
If you would rather not
You do not have to use our nameservers. You can keep DNS wherever it is and simply point an A record at your hosting. That is often the least disruptive option when email is involved.
